The Les Kils EP (Exclaim Review)…
The great people over at Exclaim have given a review of Fresh Kils “The Les Kils EP”… Peep
By Thomas Quinlan
The Les Kils EP serves as the perfect introduction to More Or Les for those still unfamiliar with the Toronto, ON rapper/producer. With seven songs in under 30 minutes, Les gets in, gets out and leaves the listener fiending for more, which is when one should go back and discover his first two albums — I Only Stop For Red Ants and The Truth About Rap — or let The Les Kils EP play again. In fact, the crowd audio of the outro flows so nicely into the intro you probably won’t even notice it cycling back through with your CD player set to repeat. In the past, Les has mixed his productions with beats from a few others but for this EP he only produces bonus track “Words In The Park,” a lo-fi song that has Les rapping complex lyrics over a bass and beatbox beat with crowd sounds sampled in the background. For the rest, Fresh Kils provides his chilled-out, jazz-inspired productions, hitting harder and faster with “Rip Rap” and “Pop N Chips,” the latter featuring guest raps from Ghettosocks and Timbuktu, and perfectly appropriate cuts from Uncle Fes. Les keeps it primarily positive while repping hip-hop culture (and comic books) to the fullest over the rest of the EP, with his simple to understand flow that occasionally gets a high-speed delivery. If there’s any justice in the world, The Les Kils EP will finally expose More Or Les to the audience he deserves. (Villain Idol)
